Cape Town at a glance
The Atlantic Seaboard is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful spots in South Africa. Ensconced between Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, the Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic Ocean, the area is renowned for its incredible natural beauty.
Suburbs in the area are ideally situated for easy access to the Cape Town City Bowl, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, the Sea Point Promenade and the beautiful beaches that hug this part of the coast.
The area is exceptionally popular and well-known for its cosmopolitan, upmarket vibe. Buyers across the spectrum are drawn not only to the incredible lifestyle on offer but also to the great investment opportunity that real estate in the area presents.
Each suburb has something special to offer and buyers are spoilt for choice. Whether you are looking for a modern apartment within close walking distance to trendy restaurants and shops or a quieter, more spacious residence away from the hustle and bustle – you will no doubt find a spot that ticks all your boxes.
Situated close to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and below Signal Hill you will find the suburbs of Granger Bay, Mouille Point, Three Anchor Bay and Green Point. This vibrant, lively neighbourhood is a popular residential area for professionals and offers mostly apartment complexes.
The area is home to the oldest operational lighthouse – the Green Point Lighthouse – a landmark easily recognised for its bold red and white candy stripes. Built in 1824, the lighthouse’s original lanterns were equipped with single wick lamps fuelled by sperm whale oil. Today the lantern uses a dioptic lens flashing light that can be seen for 25 nautical miles.
The City of Cape Town also developed the area’s public open spaces into the Green Point Urban Park with the aim of conserving the environment as well as its beauty, character and heritage. This inner city park includes a fitness park, a learning park, play park, adventure park, heritage park as well as a tea garden, nursery, bicycle rental and fresh produce markets.
A little further South, against the backdrop of Lion’s Head lies the suburb of Sea Point which heralds the start of the Sea Point Promenade, the famous, wide walkway which runs along the coastline and attracts sports enthusiasts, people-watchers, families and dog-walkers. The promenade is a hub of activity and a great place from which to view the incredible Cape sunsets over the Atlantic.
Sea Point offers a mix of large private villas situated against the slopes of Lion’s Head as well a number of high-rise apartment blocks on the beachfront. The area has a wide variety of boutiques, trendy restaurants and offices.
Bantry Bay is situated just outside of Sea Point and also offers some incredible properties on the slopes of Lion’s Head and along the beachfront. This affluent area is very sheltered and protected from the notorious Cape winds. It was originally named Botany Bay after a botanical garden that was planted for the cultivation of medicinal herbs.
The gorgeous beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay follow on from this area. Clifton is well-known for its stunning beaches which are divided into four distinct coves by granite boulders. Camps Bay is a long stretch of white sandy beach offering a boulevard along which a number of cafes, restaurants and bistros spill out. Locals, sun seekers and holidaymakers alike come to these beaches to experience the electric atmosphere and trendy vibe. Properties in the area offer fantastic views and are sought-after by residents and investors.
Just outside of Camps Bay, the suburb of Bakoven is an exclusive retreat for those who prefer a quieter lifestyle. The area offers private beaches and a wide range of properties - from magnificent villas to apartments and guest cottages.
The Cape City Bowl
The Cape City Bowl is the heart of the mother city and lies between Table Bay and the mountains of Signal Hill, Lion’s Head, Table Mountain and Devil’s Peak. The area includes the central business district of Cape Town, the Harbour, the Company Gardens and a number of residential suburbs, each with their own character and ambience.
Tamboerskloof is one of the oldest residential suburbs in Cape Town. Lying between Gardens and Table Mountain National Park, the suburb is quiet and has many Victorian style homes.
Higgovale is an upmarket suburb situated on the mountain slopes of Table Mountain and offers incredible views.
At the foot of Signal Hill lie the suburbs of Bo-Kaap and De Waterkant. Bo-Kaap is well-known for its brightly coloured houses and as being the spiritual home of the Cape’s large Muslim community. De Waterkant offers 19th Century homes and is sought after due its trendy, village feel.
Oranjezicht, also on the slopes of Table Mountain, was developed on the site of the old Oranjezicht Farm and has many restored homes, while Gardens is just a stone’s throw from the centre of Cape Town.
Other suburbs offering a wide range of properties include Devil’s Peak Estate, Highlands Estate, University Estate, VredeHoek, Woodstock and Kloof Nek.
